2024 Summer Meeting

Fort William/Inverness


The Summer Meeting (event) will be held in Inverness, Moray Firth and the Great Glen from 2 - 8 September. 

Below is the provisional itinerary. The full itinerary and booking form will be sent to interested members in due course. Please contact admin@royalarchinst.org if you are interested in attending. 

A four-day tour around the coast of the Moray Firth from Forres to the Black Isle (and beyond) and down the Great Glen. The tour will take in monuments from salient points of the region's history from the Prehistoric to the Industrial via Pictish Stones and sites from 1745.

The provisional timetable includes the highlights of:
• One day touring the coast of the Moray Firth and Black Isle visiting, amongst others:
• Culloden Battlefield
• Clava Cairns
• Fortrose
• One day in Moray County and the Grampian mountains visiting:
• Dalwhinnie village
• Ruthven Barracks
• Suend's Stone
• One day on the North Coast of the Cromarty Firth and Black Isle visiting:
• Portmahomack and Tarbat
• Dornoch Cathedral
• Hilton of Cadboll Pictish Stones
• One day travelling the Great Glen and visiting sites such as:
• Urquhart Castle
• The Commando Monument
• Neptunes Staircase (Caledonian Canal)
• Plus one day to explore Inverness 
• All sites listed, subject to final booking confirmations.
